Regular Zombie Addon

A zombie is usually one of the first enemies you learn to deal with in Minecraft. Keep your distance, land a few hits and you can get on with your day. The creature added by Regular Zombie is a tougher opponent. It’s based on the zombie from Counter-Strike Online, with a detailed model, its own animations and a few nasty surprises for anyone expecting an easy fight.

These zombies can appear naturally, including underground, so you might meet one while exploring a cave as well as out on the surface. Don’t count on sunrise to get rid of it: it doesn’t burn in daylight. If one follows you back toward your base, you’ll need to deal with it yourself or find somewhere safe to hide. There are Origin and Host types, with Hosts being the stronger of the two. Both can take much more punishment than a regular Minecraft zombie, so bring a reliable weapon and enough food before picking a fight.

One thing that makes an encounter tricky is the zombie’s ability to heal. Leave it alone for a few seconds and it begins recovering health, with the healing becoming faster over time. You may need to retreat if you’re badly hurt, but doing so can give your opponent time to recover as well. Keep an eye on your surroundings before attacking: fighting near a drop, other monsters or a group of villagers can make an already difficult battle worse.

The zombie can also enter a berserk state. You’ll see a red mist around it as it rushes toward you and hits harder. That sounds like a good moment to run, but there’s an opportunity there too: while berserk, it takes more damage from your attacks. Whether you stand your ground or move away depends on how well equipped you are and how much health you have left. Either way, it’s worth paying attention when the red mist appears.

And then there are the grenades. The zombie has a chance to throw one at you, so staying at a distance won’t necessarily make you safe. It may use a timed grenade or one that explodes on impact. If you’re fighting close to home, try to draw the creature away from anything you’re worried about damaging. A fight in an open area also gives you more room to move than a narrow cave passage or a crowded village street.

Villagers have another reason to fear these creatures. When a zombie from the add-on kills a villager, that villager turns into the same kind of zombie. The creatures also gain rage from kills and can eventually evolve into the stronger Host form. If you’ve built a settlement you care about, keeping an eye on its surroundings is a good idea. One encounter near the village can become a much bigger problem if the zombie is left alone with its residents.

There’s also an Endless mode for players who want a different kind of challenge. In that mode the zombies appear more frequently, can spawn during the day and follow players from much farther away. They have less health and don’t heal, but you may find yourself dealing with them more often as you travel. Whether you’re exploring caves, protecting a village or trying to make it home with your supplies, Regular Zombie gives you a reason to take a second look when you spot movement in the distance.
