Common Sense Addon – Filling the Gaps Mojang Forgot
You ever craft something in Minecraft and think, “Why can’t I do more with this?” That’s exactly what Common Sense fixes. This addon brings in a ton of new recipes, mechanics, tweaks, and features that honestly should’ve been vanilla from the start. It’s not overpowered — it’s just logical.

There are little things in Minecraft that you get used to working around: carrying a torch but having to place it before it lights the cave, leaving a favorite mount behind, or finding an item that seems like it should have a crafting recipe. Common Sense adds a collection of changes aimed at moments like these. It brings new recipes, useful items and adjustments to familiar activities, giving you more options while you explore, build and look after your animals.
One feature you may appreciate on your next mining trip is dynamic lighting. With it enabled, a light source you carry can help illuminate the area around you. That makes it easier to look into a dark passage while keeping a tool ready. The addon also expands what you can do with your off-hand, including using fireworks while flying with an elytra. Some features can be turned on or off through the addon’s settings, so take a look at the guidebook and choose the changes you want for your world. You may find that a small adjustment makes an activity you already enjoy a little more comfortable.
Animals and mounts get some attention too. You can tame creatures such as foxes, frogs and polar bears, giving you more choices if you like keeping animals around your base. There’s fox armor to try, and a mount horn that lets you summon a horse or camel you’ve linked to it. That’s useful when you’ve travelled together, wandered away to gather materials and don’t want to spend the next few minutes searching for your ride. The addon also offers changes to mounts, including a way for two players to ride a horse together. It’s a nice option for a trip with a friend, particularly when only one of you has brought a horse.
Crafting has more possibilities as well. Common Sense adds recipes for items that can otherwise be awkward to obtain, along with an uncrafting system and a way to turn rotten flesh into leather. Check the in-game recipes to see what materials you need before planning a project around a particular item. There are new foods to try, including bacon and eggs, fried eggs and sushi, as well as useful objects such as a scuba helmet and a magic mirror. For something a little less practical, there’s even a balloon. These additions give you reasons to look through the recipe book again, even if you already know the usual crafting recipes by heart.
The addon also includes an over-the-shoulder camera option, anvil repair changes and other small features you can discover as you play. You don’t need to try everything at once. Open the guidebook, choose a few settings that interest you and see how they fit into your usual routine. Perhaps you’ll start by taking a light source into a cave, then return home and make equipment for a new animal companion. Common Sense suits a world where you want familiar Minecraft activities to remain familiar, while giving yourself a few more ways to handle them.

Little survival annoyances? Smoothed out. Everything feels like it belongs. Whether you’re deep in survival, building something epic, or just trying to keep your world fun, Common Sense gives you those small but powerful upgrades that change the game in all the right ways.
Built for players who love balance, simplicity, and smart features.
