Wild raccoons aren’t just cute animals wandering around for decoration. They can pick up items they find, and if one gets hold of something edible, there’s a chance it’ll turn your dropped snack into its own lunch. They can also take items from nearby chests, so a raccoon hanging around your base might be worth keeping an eye on. Just don’t expect a tiny bodyguard to win every fight for you. Raccoons may defend their player with melee attacks, but they’re cautious around threats such as wolves and polar bears. A safer place near home gives you a chance to enjoy their company without dragging them into every dangerous cave you decide to explore. And if you spot a baby riding on an adult’s back, hang around for a moment: the little one eventually grows up and heads off to explore on its own.

The fun of this Minecraft animal addon comes from those small interruptions to your routine. You might be sorting supplies, gathering food, or heading out to build a new cabin when a raccoon catches your attention and sends your plans in a different direction. Maybe you’ll start carrying sweet berries specifically in case you meet one. Maybe you’ll set aside a corner of your base for a new pet, or simply enjoy spotting wild raccoons as you travel. They fit nicely into a cozy survival world, especially if you like having animals around but want them to do more than stand in a pen. Just remember that a wild raccoon and a chest full of valuables might be a risky combination. Cute as they are, those little paws have plans of their own.
