Weather Immersion Mod / Addon

Mods 1.26 / Mods 1.21

Weather Immersion is a very useful mod for realism to add changing weather to Minecraft. One minute you’re walking through a forest in clear weather; the next, the distant trees are disappearing behind a curtain of water. Weather Immersion gives those moments more detail, with rain splashing against the ground and rippling across water. Snowy regions and deserts have their own effects too, so a storm looks different depending on where your travels take you.

During rain, droplets strike grass, dirt and stone, while splashes and expanding ripples appear on the surface of rivers and lakes. The rain itself moves with the wind, giving a downpour a stronger sense of direction. Stand beside the water during a storm and the changes are easy to notice; even a small pond near your house becomes more interesting to look at. Fog and mist can also make distant hills harder to see when the weather gets heavy.

That reduced visibility changes the feeling of being outdoors. If you’re exploring somewhere new, you may want to keep track of your route or find shelter until you can see farther again. There’s something satisfying about returning to a cabin after a long journey and watching the rain from inside while you sort through everything you brought back.

Snowy areas get their own treatment. During a thunderstorm in a frozen biome, a blizzard can fill the air with dense, wind-driven snow. Flakes move through a white haze, and snow swirls near the ground. Familiar landmarks become less obvious when they’re hidden by the weather, so a trip across an open snowy landscape can feel much more demanding. Torches and a clearly marked trail are useful things to have when you expect to travel back the same way.

Head into a desert or the badlands during bad weather and you may encounter a sandstorm instead. Clouds of sand, drifting dust and a brownish haze change the look of the surrounding terrain. During thunder, the particles become denser, making it more difficult to pick out distant features. A desert village or a shelter built into a hillside can feel like a welcome sight when you’ve been travelling through all that dust.

The effects appear automatically, so you don’t need to stop and choose a weather setting each time you enter a different area. The add-on checks the surroundings and displays the appropriate effects while the weather is active. Go indoors, underground or underwater, and the outdoor particles and fog stop. That makes the contrast between a storm outside and a sheltered room more noticeable, whether you’re waiting in a small wooden house or working in a mine below it.

Weather Immersion is a nice addition if you enjoy paying attention to the places you travel through. It doesn’t ask you to change your plans or begin a new project; it makes the rain, snow and desert weather around you more noticeable while you play. A trip you’ve made many times before can feel quite different when the distant landscape fades into mist and the water beside the path is covered in ripples.
