Don’t Punch Trees! Mod / Addon

Mods / Addons / Mods 1.21

Don’t Punch Trees! Mod is for anyone who’s sick of the same old “spawn, slap a tree, craft wood tools in 30 seconds” routine. This addon hard-stops that meta by making logs off-limits unless you’re using the right tool. You can’t break logs with your bare hands or with random tools—only tools that have the minecraft:is_axe tag can chop wood, and the logs themselves must have the minecraft:logs tag. So the world immediately feels more demanding, because you have to earn your first wood instead of speedrunning it.

Your new start is all about primitive materials. You get Flint Shards by striking a flint block using a stone item, and those shards become your first serious crafting ingredient. From there, you craft a Flint Knife using 1 Flint Shard and 1 Stick, and that knife is how you begin pulling useful stuff out of the environment. Cutting grass with the Flint Knife gives you Plant Fiber and String, which then lets you craft Fiber String—basically the glue that holds the whole primitive recipe chain together.

Once you’ve got flint shards, fiber string, and sticks, the tool progression opens up. The big milestone is the Flint Axe, because that’s your first tool that can actually chop trees under this system, and it can also strip logs. You also get a Flint Pickaxe for early mining, a Flint Hoe for primitive farming, and a Flint Shovel so digging soft blocks doesn’t feel like you’re playing with your hands tied. The standout utility tool is the Flint Hammer, which crushes blocks down into finer materials in a clear chain: Stone to Cobble to Gravel to Sand to Dirt. That gives you a really different early-game loop where you’re not just collecting—you’re processing.

In actual survival, the best move is to treat day one like a “setup day.” Don’t waste time sprinting for trees you can’t break yet. Focus on getting your first Flint Shards, craft the Flint Knife immediately, and cut grass until you’ve got enough Plant Fiber and String to keep momentum. Once your Flint Axe is online, wood becomes a reward instead of a default, and your whole base-building pace feels more intentional. And since players receive a Guide Book on first spawn, you’ve got an in-world reference for the new mechanics, which helps a lot when you’re learning the flow. Don’t Punch Trees! Mod is basically a stricter, more realistic early-game ruleset that makes your first tools feel earned instead of automatic.
